We’re happy to announce that Stamford, CT has officially partnered with Kramatorsk as a Sister City! On Thursday, Mayor Oleksandr Honcharenko of Kramatorsk, Donetsk and Mayor Caroline Simmons of Stamford, CT officially signed a resolution creating a formal Sister City relationship.
At the ceremony at the Stamford Train Station, Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Jim Himes also spoke of the need for more help from Americans to support the Ukrainian people.
The location — as well as the date — were symbolically chosen. One year ago, on April 8, the people of Kramatorsk were brutally attacked when two missiles containing cluster munitions struck the central train station, a vital hub of commerce and civic life in the region. Over 60 civilians, including 7 children, lost their lives. We remember and express our deepest sympathies for their families and the entire community.
That is why the UAI team was on the ground in Kramatorsk this week to commemorate this bloody and unprovoked murder of civilians, and commit the support of the people of Stamford, CT to help rebuild this town. With the help of all of you, Kramatorsk will be rebuilt and revitalized.
Fortunately, residents of Stamford can now directly aid the people of Kramatorsk by donating here. 100% of donations will go directly to aid the people of Kramatorsk on behalf of the people of Stamford and there’s no better way to get effective assistance to the people who need it most.
