We are excited today to announce the official signing of a memorandum between Weston, CT, and Siversk, Donetsk, Ukraine today, establishing our newest Sister City relationship. The Mayor of Siversk, Oleksandr Gura, signed the memorandum in Siversk today with the UAI team. Samantha Nestor, First Selectwoman of Weston, CT, signed the same memorandum earlier in the week. This marks the beginning of a promising partnership between these two towns thousands of miles apart.
Siversk is a city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, with a prewar population of about 10,000. Siversk boasts a rich history and resilient spirit, particularly in the wake of facing severe damage and destruction from Russian forces in July 2022. Weston is a serene town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, with a population of 10,354 as per the 2020 census. It is known for its charming atmosphere and close proximity to New York City.
This Sister City relationship not only signifies continuing international solidarity with Ukraine, but also paves the way for cultural exchange, educational collaborations, and economic opportunities. We are already working with the citizens of Weston to fundraise for Siversk’s immediate rebuilding and humanitarian needs.
