In the heart of the majestic Carpathians, far from the echoes of missile strikes in Ukraine and the doom of Russia’s war in Ukraine, lies Karabin Camp — a 10-day therapeutic retreat created by a team of professionals with extensive experience.
More than a summer getaway, it’s a lifeline designed to heal the invisible wounds carried by children who have survived drone attacks in Ukraine, endured the trauma of cities attacked by headlines, and witnessed the harsh realities of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Children in frontline communities face unique challenges:
- Invisible wounds from repeated air raids and bombardments.
- Displacement and separation from friends and family.
- Interrupted education leads to long-term developmental setbacks.
As global attention shifts with every new Ukraine news bulletin, these young survivors risk being forgotten.
Without addressing mental health, these young survivors risk lifelong trauma.
Karabin Camp exists to ensure they are not forgotten and fills the psychological gap by offering a structured, nurturing environment where they can process their experiences.
By choosing to donate to the war in Ukraine or support the war in Ukraine, you give them a chance to reclaim their childhood.
Child Trauma Recovery Ukraine | Karabin Camp
The Russo-Ukrainian War has cast long shadows over everyday life. Sirens, missile strikes, and drone attacks in Ukraine have become unwanted backdrops to childhood.
Karabin Camp is that rare clearing where trauma is met with tools for recovery.
UAI has partnered with Karabin Camp to develop a ten-day program designed to support children displaced by conflict.
It hosts 38 campers and two accompanying teachers in a woodland lodge, providing a combination of therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities:
- Art therapy and master classes
Structured sessions led by professional instructors, where participants learn specific techniques to express and process emotions through visual art. - Jeeping and nature exploration
Guided off-road excursions and forest walks that promote physical activity, teamwork, and a renewed sense of curiosity about the natural world.]
- Digital-detox hikes and creative workshops
Daily hikes without electronic devices, complemented by hands-on projects — such as sculpture or drama exercises — that encourage focus and self-reflection. - Talk therapy and group workshops
Facilitated discussions and evidence-based exercises that help children share experiences, develop coping strategies, and build peer support networks. - Balanced meals and snacks
Five nutritionally planned meals each day, crafted by qualified staff to meet the dietary needs of growing children. - Safe, fully supported accommodation
Comfortable sleeping quarters with 24/7 supervision, ensuring both physical security and emotional well-being.
UAI and Karabin Camp combine professional guidance with structured activities to foster resilience, social connection, and personal growth in a secure environment.
Because sometimes, the most powerful aid is the chance to just be a kid again.
Despite the war, 70% of adolescents say they want to study and live in Ukraine — a powerful testament to their hope for the future.
At the same time, many express feelings of loss and disconnection: “I miss my old life. Most of my classmates won’t return to school,” one teen shared. Others highlighted the importance of emotional support: “When I feel low, talking to a friend helps.”
When the world feels heavy, a single brushstroke of hope can create ripples of resilience. Will you join us in painting a brighter future for Ukraine’s children?
