Urgent Animal Needs in Kramatorsk: Sterilization, Rabies, and Isolation Cages

Our team visited Kramatorsk today to gain insights into the state of animal welfare and understand the challenges faced by the local community in dealing with stray animals.

One of the most striking findings of our mission was the visit to the Animal Sterilization Center in Kramatorsk. This center is the only one in the entire oblast that receives support from the government budget to sterilize animals. With a predominantly volunteer-based workforce, the center has been undertaking commendable efforts to control the population of stray animals.

Kramatorsk is grappling with a serious issue of rabid animals, which poses a threat to both human and animal lives. The situation has escalated to an extent where people have resorted to killing strays. Unfortunately, this has led to an alarming buildup of animal carcasses around the city. This is not only inhumane but also poses health risks to the community. The sterilization center plays a critical role in this regard, by humanely controlling the animal population, which can in turn reduce the incidence of rabies.

The center faces its own set of challenges. Among these, there is a desperate need for winter isolated cages for dogs. After the animals are neutered, they require a safe and warm space during their holding period for recovery. The harsh winter conditions make this especially critical. These insulated cages would provide the animals with the necessary protection from the cold, and contribute to their well-being and successful recovery.
