Our delegation had the honor of meeting with the Mayor of Sumy today, Oleksandr Lysenko, to discuss the opportunities for friendship and collaboration. A focal point of our discussion was that Sumy has seen a remarkable increase in its population due to the arrival of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) fleeing occupation or threats of violence in the east. This influx has presented a strain on the city’s resources and services, which are already strained from having suffered severe damage during Russian occupation early in the war.
We’d like to help where we can. This was the first of many conversations and Sumy is a city we’re looking forward to working with more. If you would like to partner with Sumy as a sister city, please contact us!
